The most popular beaches on the island are in the east , where the water is pleasantly warm and intensely blue, while the beaches in the west are wilder and less populated, offering the pleasures of peace and quiet.
Hotels & Activities
Since Zanzíbar has recently become a relevant international destination, specially for newly-wed couples, the hotel industry has rapidly developed.
One of the most interesting activities is visiting Jozani National Park, a vast protected area with profuse wild life where you can see the beautiful red colobus and the blue monkeys. And if you want to combine animal watching with sunbathing, we recommend you to visit the beaches of Ras Ngunwi Lighthouse, and see the giant green turtles laying their eggs.
Whalewatching is also an intesesting activity specially in September. But if you prefer interactive activities, you can go on an organized tour to enjoy swimming with dolphins, a usual practice in this area.
As far as historical visits are concerned, we advise you to go to Stone Town, which offers a gracious combination of mosques, minarets and bazaars (depicting the times of Arab influence), British colonial houses and the spectacular Indian works on glass and balconies, rounding up a really motivating trip.
Weather & Flights
Zanzíbar International Airport offers an excellent net of international connections, so it is easy to reach.
The best time to come is between June and October.
