Tobago

Tobago is the small, beautiful and reserved island sister of Trinidad, but the contrast is outstanding, since Tobago does not have major industries and has only one important village, Scarborough, and a dozen of small villages whose names reflect the Spanish, French, Dutch and British influence.

In the high part of the island you will find the striking waterfalls falling into natural pools as well as the oldest unspoilt tropical forest on Earth.

The beaches in Tobago are really spectacular. Mt Irvine stands out as one of the best beaches in the Caribbean to go surfing, while Bucoo Beach is a meeting point for entertainment, with discos where tourists dance to live music.

Where to stay and what to do

In Tobago there are not big hotel chains, partly because of the ban on building anything taller than a palm tree. But you can find good accommodation at inns and houses which have been refurbished into boutique hotels.

It is essential to visit the natural pools shaped by the Argyle cascade, one of the most relaxing activities you can do on the island. Or enjoy sightseeing along the coast as far as Speyside in the north, where you will see the small Cabra Island, the home of the famous stingrays of Tobago.

Another peculiarity of Tobago, which you will surely not find in any other of the best beaches in the world, is the opportunity to witness goat and crab races, a really exotic show.

If you feel like a change, we recommend you to visit King George Fort, dating back to 1779 and offering amazing views from the top of Scarborough.

When and how to go

You can fly to Tobago from London, Atlanta, Miami and other major cities, as it has its own international airport.

The mild temperatures in Tobago make it a good destination any time of the year.
