What is good about Taveuni is that, although it has some of the best beaches in Fiji, tourism has not developed much yet, which may soon change drastically.
Activities
In Vanua Levu you will find an extense system of corals with striking cliffs and marvellous hot springs. It is important to know that to get there you must obtain a special permit issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Suvu.
Taveuni has also been called “the garden island” due to the great variety of tropical plants, so its natural beauty does not depend only on its beaches.
Taveuni also has the best diving places in Fiji, like Arcoiris Reef and the extraordinary Great White Wall, a luminous tunnel surrounded by corals. It also has Bouma, the most famous waterfall in Fiji (situated in the charming Bouma National Park) and the spectacular Tagimacuia Lake, an 800-metre-high volcanic crater where fantastic native flowers grow.
It offers varied activities. You can visit the most interesting natural reserves like Taveuni Reserve or Ravilevu, or take a tour of Vunivasa to an archaeological site where you will visit a typical walled village surrounded by waterfalls.
Weather
Although you can visit Taveuni any time of the year, this is a rainy place so you had better travel between April and October which are usually the driest months. To get there you need to fly from Suvu or Nadi to Taveuni airport.
