AFRICA BEST
Seychelles Islands have all what is necessary to deserve to be placed among the best beaches in the world. As well as being the sovereign state with the smallest population in Africa, the Seychelles are about 150 granite and coral islands situated 1500 km east of the continent, and 1600 km northeast from Madagascar.
The biggest of these islands is Mahé in the north of the archipelago, housing 90% of the total population of the islands (about 60.000 people) and where the capital city, Victoria, is located. The population settlements in Mahé are in the north and east, while the rest of the island is dominated by two national parks: Baie Ternay and Port Launay, both worth visiting.
Regarding Mahé ´s beaches, the most beautiful is undoubtedly Beau Vallon, but you cannot miss the four best beaches of the archipelago: Aldabra, Praslin, La Digue and Silhouette.
WHERE TO STAY AND WHAT TO DO
Due to the newly aroused tourist interest in this paradise, many hotels have opened in Mahé, and you can also find excellent resorts on the other islands.
Visiting the Botanical Gardens on the outskirts of Victoria, means marvelling at an exotic world of orchids and flowers. But if you are more interested in the island´s history, Victoria Museum is a good choice, displaying objects connected to Shycelles cultural heritage.
It is also a pleasure to walk around the market where fine handicrafs mix with fruit and vegetables of all kinds, size and shape, in an environment which contrasts with the tower clock in Mahe, a perfect copy of the famous Big Ben in London
There, you will also have an opportunity to meet local people, who call themselves "the friendliest people in the world".
WHEN AND HOW TO GO
Many international airlines land on the island and there is also a local airline, Air Seychelles.
You can travel there all the year round, even during the rain season (January and February) when there is still lots of sunshine during the day.
