It's considered the jewel of the Cyclad Islands, with its coasts on the Aegean Sea, it has a unique beauty. It was inhabited since 3,000 BC by the Phoenicians and Dorians.Its ground is mostly volcanic and it owes its half moon shape to the sinking of the volcano caldera and in its interior part, where the volcano used to be now there are beautiful small islands. It has a cliff over the sea to the west and its gorgeous beaches are located on the south.
The Santorini paradise is comprised of hidden coves, crystal-clear waters, dark sands, with a very good infrastructure for tourists, with a very complete range of services. It also has virgin islands, where nudism is practiced, all of them with a common denominator: the volcanic beauty, where you can find beaches with black or red sand, all of them bathed by the intense blue color of the sea. Some of those are Perivolos, Perissa, which is the most classical one, Monolithos, ideal for a family trip, because it's very quiet and children-friendly, and Ammoudi Armeni, which is one of the best Greek beaches for diving.
A good place to stay is Red Beach, which is very attractive with the red color of its fine sands, mixed with rocks, which sets it apart from all the others. It's very crowded and its sunset is worth a full chapter. In contrast, there's also White Beach, which is only accessable by boat, with its breathtaking beauty. It attributes its name to the white reefs surrounding it.

From 5-star hotels to Mediterranean accommodations that are located on the west side, with beautiful terraces and views of the caldera, Santorini offers a wide range of possibilities for accommodations.
Thira, Santorini's capital, has a very special charm, because it's built on the edge of a cliff with view to the caldera, which is the hole where the volcano used to be. This city poses a great beauty, its white houses contrast wonderfully with the dark rocks. It has a small port where you can hire one of the little boats that tour the interior islands, such as Thirassia, Palea Kameni or Nea Kameni, with warm waters.
At night and at noon, its restaurants and bars are packed with tourists, its architecture and gastronomy are excellent and can compete with the ones in the big cities of the world.
It also has many museums and archeological areas, the Prehistoric Museum of Thera and the Archeological Museum of Fira are unmissable.
HOW AND WHEN TO GO - WEATHER AND TRANSPORTATION
To get to Santini from any point of Europe, the simplest way is to go to Athens and from there charter one of the daily flights that connect the Greek capital with the island.
From June to August, the Greek summer is hot and dry, it may be better to visit this island in the springtime, from April to June, or during the autumn, from September to October. With the exception of the winter months, from November to March, the rest of the year it's packed with tourists.
