Saint Lucia
Saint Lucia

Every square centimetre in Saint Lucia is wreathed in myths and legends. The amazing Marigot Bay is where the British Navy cheated the French Navy by camouflaging their ships with the palm trees of the coast, and is one of the most spectacular beaches in the world. The island is a combination or British and French culture immersed in the Caribbean atmosphere where tourism, though important, is not the main economic resource as in the majority of the other Caribbean beaches.

A developing environmental policy controls the giant hotel constructions of the past, so as to protect the amazing coral reefs and the striking topography of Saint Lucia.

Not only does the island offer fantastic beaches, waterfalls, lakes, orchid rivers, valleys, woods and birdwatchig centres, but it also enables you to observe the beautiful turtles coming on shore to mate on Grand Anse, one of the best beaches in Saint Lucia.

Where to stay and what to do

Saint Lucia offers good accommodation options, and you can choose between big hotels from the past and small modern Caribbean inns.

You cannot miss visiting the Diamond Falls, where Louis XVI built hot spring baths for the French troops on the island, or sightseeing in the Latille Gardens, a tropical paradise with lush flowers, fruit, trees and waterfalls and incredible sunset colours which give the island a special atmosphere.

It is also a good idea to visit the Cape of Good Luck, where you can find a fortress built by the French in the 17th Century and later finished by the British in 1796, and which was a fundamental strategic point for both powers during colonial wars.

At night, a typical activity is visiting the small fishing village of Gros Islet to dance in the streets to the sounds of soca and reggae, specially on Fridays.

When and how to go

You can get to Vieux For by plane directly from Paris, Miami and the major cities in the South of the USA.

Saint Lucia is definitely an any-time-of-the-year destination.
