  • RAVENA - ITALYLocated a few kilometers from the Adriatic Sea, Ravena is a city of art and culture. Its great attractive is being an artistic city by the sea. It was the capital of the Western Roman Empire, that is why its history is so interesting. It has many monuments, as well as churches that have been declared by the UNESCO as patrimony of the humanity.

There are nine beach towns in approximately thirty five kilometers of coast, with a marvelous setting to receive tourists, with great experience, where you can enjoy your vacations sunbathing, relaxing or practicing your favorite sports.

If you prefer outdoors tourism, Casalborsetti is the beach town part of the Ravena jurisdiction, ideal for that type of activities, because its got very well organized camping sites, and if on the contrary, you'd rather have an appartment for your vacations, Lido Adriano is your choice. Both of them are, for sure, among the best beaches in Italy.

WHERE TO STAY AND WHAT TO DO - HOTELS AND ACTIVITIES

The possibilities are endless, because you will find hotels, bed and breakfasts, inns, houses, chalets, apartments, farms and rural homes, campings and hostals.

If you prefer first class hotels, you shall select Lido di Classe, which is near the Foce Bevano natural area, defined as a "hall by the sea" for its gorgeous decorations, with top notch installations.

Ravena is known as the "mosque city", and to admire the Byzantine mosques in the different churches, such as the Saint John the Evangelist church, is highly recommended. This church is one of the oldest in the city, it was restored and it's magnificent. The visit to the Mausoleum of Gala Placidia and the Orthodox Baptisterio, the Basilica of Saint Apolinar and the Basilica of Saint Vital is also a must.

In June and July, there's the "Ravena Festival", where churches, cloisters and theaters become ideal scenaries for classic and contemporary music concerts, as well as opera and ballet.

HOW AND WHEN TO GO - WEATHER AND TRANSPORTATION

You can get there from the Bolonia Airport, there's a highway that takes you directly from Bolonia to Ravena, and of course it's possible to rent a car at the airport for reasonable prices.

From May to October, the temperature is very pleasant, between 20ēC and 30ēC, being this the best time to visit Ravena.
