URUGUAY BEACHES
In the department of Rocha, one of the most idyllic resorts is Punta del Diablo, built on a former fishing village, which has created the access road to the route, has become one of the most picturesque and popular among tourists. Its large rocks, its architecture formed by colored cottages with terraces to the sea form a unique and unrepeatable landscape within the beaches of Uruguay.The fiercest of the beaches is La Viuda, where the sand is widerer and is more than 4 kilometers long. The most popular and best known is the beach Los Botes, so named because here local fishermen embark, and it's got very calm waters, ideal to come with the family. Next to this beach is the beach Del Rivero: a closed bay with big waves for surfing.
WHERE TO STAY AND WHAT TO DO - HOTELS AND ACTIVITIES
It has a good infrastructure for hosting comprised mostly of hostels, inns, cottages and cabins for rent and camping areas.
One of the main attractions is sport fishing and of course water sports, especially surfing.
Be sure to visit the craft fair, a very picturesque place with many beautiful stalls featuring Uruguayan crafts. Another major attraction is the Museo Casa del Mar, which has great information about ocean life.
Also unmissable is the Santa Teresa National Park and the fortress that dates from 1762. Another nearby place is Castillos where you can appreciate the lagoon near an incredible ombú forest with ancient specimens.
HOW AND WHEN TO GO - WEATHER AND TRANSPORTATION
From the International Airport of Carrasco, take Interbalnearia Route to Route 9 onto Route 298 and a kilometer away to the entrance to Punta del Diablo.
The best season is the summer season, from December to March, when the average temperature is 28 degrees.
