Portugal Beaches

Portugal
Madeira

Portugal is a very attractive European destination, with more than 800 kilometres of coast, where visitors find some of the best beaches in the world and it is no coincidence that there are more than 20 Portuguese beaches brandishing the Blue Flag.

All the beaches in Portugal, either continental or insular, are bathed only by the Atlantic Ocean, therefore there are excellent beaches for surfing, windsurfing and other watersports.

We must highlight the striking Madeira and Las Azores islands, offering endless natural attractions as well as lots of amazing beaches.

On the continental coast, the most famous beach is Algarve, best known as the “Costa Azul” of Portugal due to its amazing rocky formations and blue waters from the Atlantic Ocean. We specially highlight Ilha de Tavira and Albufeira, althought there are also fabulous beaches in Las Beiras, the cliffs in Extremadura and the Alentejo´s coasts.

Apart from its beaches, Portugal has lots of other tourist attractions: Lisbon city holds striking cathedrals, beautiful promenades and a really peculiar seafront, wrapped in an environment of peace and quiet which will enable you to get the best of your stay in the Portuguese capital. Another outstanding city is Coimbra, worldwide famous for its university and for Oporto, the north capital of the country where is a historic disctrict which was declared world patrimony by the Unesco.

So, if you are thinking of visiting a European country which has both interesting history and a quiet way of life, we recommend you to visit Portugal, where you will be able to enjoy some of the best beaches in Europe.
