Plettenberg Bay, formerly called Formosa Bay by the Portuguese, is a rocky penninsula with forests, lagoons, estuaries and amazing rivers which provide an impressive landscape on the Indian Ocean.

On Garden Route there are more than 15 kilometres of beaches, including Central beach, Keurboom, Lookout and Robberg. They are vast and beautiful with golden sand and crystal water.

Where to stay and what to do - Hotels & Activities

There is a wide range of hotels and hostels, and you can also go camping in the parks.

From Central beach you can board one of the cruisers departing daily and enjoy the good information given by the guides during an extraordinary voyage. Tourists also love practising snorkelling , diving and fishing both in the rocks and on board of boats.

Apart from watersports, visitors choose to play golf in the excellent golf courses, as well as cycling, walking or bungy jumping.

You cannot miss Elephant Park, Monkeyland, where you will see lots of different species, and Birds of Eden, a sanctuary offering a better life to more than four thousand birds which live freely. And if you like golf, you will find the best courses to play this sport.

At night you can have a great time at good discos, bars and restaurants. An interesting area to visit is the Indian Neighbourhood with its market in Victoria Street.

When and how to go - Weather & Flights

There are seven airports, three international ones and four specially prepared for ecotourism. Johannesburg is the most important, and from there you will be able to reach your destination.

The climate is temperate, with little rain and the best time to come is between November and April.
