Peru is located in the central and westernmost part of South America, and its coasts are bathed by the Pacific Ocean. Its territory is divided into three natural regions: the coast, the mountains and the jungle. The Peruvian coast is more than 3,000 kilometers long, in which there are beaches, bays, and fishing towns. The whole coast is amazingly beautiful, but the north area is where the water is warmer. This coast offers the tourists an impressive assortment of beaches, with hidden places and wild spots full of peace, which attract surfing lovers and also those who simply want to enjoy the sun laying on the sand.
Lima, the Peruvian capital, is located right on the coast, and it has very good beaches to enjoy, some of them are ideal for water sports, like surfing and fishing. To the north of Lima, there are many beaches. One of them is El Faraón, very attractive for tourists because you can spot from the beach an island with a pyramid shape, to which you can get by swimming, which is a challenge many tourists want to take. Another appealing beach is El Silencio, only one half hour away from Lima, surrounded by a cliff, and in which you can enjoy clear and calm waters, ideal to enjoy the sun, the sea and a great peace.
From north to south, there are four well defined beach regions: Tumbes, Piura, Lambayeque and Libertad. Some of them are very calm, many of them have ports and piers, other ones have become hot tourist spots, almost all of them have a very good hotel infrastructure and services for the vacationists.
Towards the south, in the Piura Department, Máncora's warm waters, magnificient weather, rockless sands, ideal wind to practice kitesurfing and windsurfing it's a very popular destination. Its wave surge can rise up to 2 meters high.
In terms of gastronomy, the great variety of seafood is outstanding, especially the black shells.
