Arriving there is a true adventure, because one of the possibilities to approach this paradise is on board of an express boat or "Tapaito", as it is called by local people. These ancient boats have more than 4 motors and they make a fantastic route to the city of Manicure and from there, we go to the center of Araya by land.
Peninsula de Araya is worldly known because of its salt mines, from where it is obtained de 99% of salt for this Latin-American country. As we are arriving, we can seethat the process of elaboration of salt causesa purple sparkle in the sky which,as the angle of the sun in the sky changes and matches with the deepness of water, takes another colour, causing a really amazing spectacle.
There are options for lodging in many inns, in which we can count with all the services to assure us a very pleasant stay.No doubt the most attractive touristic landmark in the peninsula is a Spanish fortressdating from 1630, placed on the shore. It is also interesting to walk to the local church and to the Ateneo.
Its beaches have calm water. It is advisable to hire sunshades to be comfortable, because there is no shade in these beaches.
The remarkable beaches are "Playa Castillo" by the castle, with blue and not very deep water, ideal for children; "Playa de los Muertos" with a permanent breeze and few waves; ideal for windsurfers, and "Punta Cangrejo", with meal and lodging services, very good for diving and snorkeling, where we can only arrive by sea.
With very few inhabitants and small villages, Peninsula de Araya is an ideal option for those who love quiet and not common holidays.
We can go by land to the city of Cumana from Caracas and from there, by ferry. Climate, as in every northern zone in Venezuela, is tropical, and the annual temperature is from 27º to 30º.
