Parque Nacional Mochima is a splendid group of beaches placed at the north of Caracas, the Capital City of Venezuela. It is six hundred meters above sea level, and offers us the most varied landscapes, inlets, almost virgin islands and islets, cliffs from where we can admire wonderful sights, bays and the most colourful coral reefs and Venezuelan beaches for all tastes.
Besides the traditional Caribbean beaches with white sands ant turquoise sea, the park is worldly known because of the intense reddish sand of its seaside called "Playa Colorada". Its perfect complement is a rich mountainous area full of luxurious vegetation and pelicans with their red beaks; typical of these places. These beaches with their pre-columbine monuments are an excellent option for our holidays.
WHERE TO STAY AND WHAT TO DO - HOTELS AND ACTIVITIES
Hotel trade is very developed and we can find lodging for all our necessities.There are hotels of a high level and also traditional and very comfortable economical inns in the whole park. Its restaurants, pubs and night clubsdon't go unnoticed, since they have endless options for tourists if they want to taste traditional dishes, refreshing drinks or look for amusement during the whole night.
All the beaches are adequate to practice aquatic sports; specially sailing and submarine swimming or the popular trip in "banano".
We can go to the islands only by ship; these excursions are planned by local operators, and there is a high frequency during the whole day.
Their transparent and calm water are preferred not only by tourists of both hemispheres, but by different aquatic species, such as giant tortoises, whales, and of course, nice dolphins.
WHEN AND HOW TO GO - WEATHER AND TRANSPORTATION
We can go by land from the airport of Cumaná, where flies from Caracas arrive. It is advisable to visit the park between January to May, in order to avoid rains. The average annual temperature is 30º.
