Pamul is thought to have originally been a loading port used by the Mayas to transport goods in their ships across the Caribbean, and is now one of the best beaches in Mexico. Its beaches have gentle slopes, golden sand and crystal water, with nearby reefs that cover long distances, making this place to be an ideal spot for snorkelling and diving. It is possible to hire equipment to practise these activities.
It is situated between Puerto Aventuras and Xcaret, after Calica, and is one of the favourite places with those who prefer to enjoy nature, peace and quiet when they are on holiday.
As far as accommodation is concerned, it offers all kinds: hotels, motels, beautiful cottages between the jungle and the sea, 2-3-4 or 5 star hostels and camping facilities.
It is the ideal place to do watersports, specially snorkelling and diving, due to its nearness to the reef. Another great attraction for the tourist is to watch the spawning and birth of the different turtle species, which take place between May and July.
Tourists also enjoy a visit to the ecologic park, where they can go on guided walks to the jungle, sail in the rivers, go snorkelling in the “cenotes” and see a Mayan village which has been recreated inside the park.
You will find Paamul beaches between Xcaret and Puerto Aventuras, driving along the R 307, 14 or 15 km from Carmen beach. The climate is hot, with temperatures rising up to 35ºC, and the hottest days between May and August. The average temperature is about 25ºC all the year.
