Almost every country with a coastline in the world has allocated some of its beaches for nudism or naturism. Within all the nude beaches of the world there's a basic distinction: those in which nudity is actually practiced, but it's not mandatory, and those that are officially nudist beaches. Even among these, there are those that are mandatorily nudists and the ones that are not, the former being those in which it is strictly prohibited to wear clothing.

The nude beaches are part of the worldwide naturist movement, which promotes the right to move around naked in public and private places. The philosophy behind this movement can be found in the first pro-nudist movements in Germany in the early 20th century, and quickly spread to France where it perhaps had its greater development and it was justified on the grounds that the activity produces a greater contact with nature, living in harmony with our own body and then the contact of our body with Mother Nature.
