Most of the beaches on the south coast are protected from the wind and have beautiful sands. Ornos is a great and very crowded beach, because despite the amounts of people who gather there it has a great beauty. The beaches that are close to the island capital are the most visited, therefore they are the most famous beaches of Greece.
There are two quite different beaches with well defined visitors, one of them is Paradise, for nudists, and the other one is Superparadise, for gays. Among the most beautiful beaches are, with no doubt, Psarou and Plati Yalos.
WHERE TO STAY AND WHAT TO DO - HOTELS AND ACTIVITIES
Mykonos' infrastructure for tourist accomodations covers almost every way of offering good service, so from marvelous hotels to hostals, from camping to B&Bs, from apart-hotels to apartments, you can choose according to your budget.
One of the preferred activities is to roam around its capital city, because its streets are maze-like and it offers a picturesque landscape with its white houses with narrow passes surrounded by an active nightlife. In the lower part there's an area known as Little Venice of Mykonos, which is the most picturesque part, because its houses appear to be built over the sea, and many of them have been transformed into the best places to share a drink.
To visit the Paraportiani Church is unavoidable, because this is the most important church on the island. There you'll find the windmills and the Pelican Hotel, which are the symbols of this island.
HOW AND WHEN TO GO - WEATHER AND TRANSPORTATION
There are frequent flights from Athens to this island, which has its own airport 4 kilometers from town. The ferry comes daily and it's less expensive. Although it takes around seven hours, this trip is a nice one by itself, very enjoyable on a clear summer day. The island can be reached by hydrofoil as well, it takes about four hours leaving from Rafina, which is approximately 40 kilometers from Athens. The election depends on your budget, if you choose this last choice, you'll pay half the price of an airplane ride. It's easy to visit other islands from there, because it's connected by daily cruises to Pireus and most of the other islands on the Aegean Sea. It's very close to Delos, which has great attraction due to its archeological treasures.
From June to August, the Greek summer is hot and dry, the best time to visit this island may be the spring months, from April to June, or during the autumn, from September to October. With the exception of the winter months, from November to March, the rest of the year Mykonos is full of tourists.
