Moorea, situated about 18 kilometers northwest of Tahiti in the Society archipelago, being the biggest and most famous in the South Pacific, is a heart-shaped island with stunning bays, volcanic peaks and wonderful beaches with turquoise water of various hues, and has been a source of inspiration for many writers, including Melville. The bays of Cook and Opunohu cut through Moorea and offer a spectacular view of the combination of the land and green turquoise waters, considered one of the most beautiful landscapes in the Pacific Ocean. Legend has it that a huge lizard left the two bays, that's why its name, Moorea, means golden lizard.
Like many of the beaches of Polynesia, Moorea is one of the most popular places for couples to spend their honeymoon.

Another popular activity is going to the lagoon to feed sharks and stingrays and play with dolphins. And of course all other water sports such as surfing, waterskiing, game fishing, catamaran rides, etc.
To climb Mount Rotu is one of the challenges most tourists who are in very good shape set out to do, because it takes about four hours to climb and as many hours to come down, but it's really worth the effort as from the top, the panoramic view of the Cook and Oponohu bays, Mounts Mouaputa and Tohivea and of course Tahiti is absolutely indescribable.
