  • MOOREA - POLYNESIAMoorea, situated about 18 kilometers northwest of Tahiti in the Society archipelago, being the biggest and most famous in the South Pacific, is a heart-shaped island with stunning bays, volcanic peaks and wonderful beaches with turquoise water of various hues, and has been a source of inspiration for many writers, including Melville.

The bays of Cook and Opunohu cut through Moorea and offer a spectacular view of the combination of the land and green turquoise waters, considered one of the most beautiful landscapes in the Pacific Ocean. Legend has it that a huge lizard left the two bays, that's why its name, Moorea, means golden lizard.

Like many of the beaches of Polynesia, Moorea is one of the most popular places for couples to spend their honeymoon.

WHERE TO STAY AND WHAT TO DO - HOTELS AND ACTIVITIES

Many hotels have bungalows on the water, without a doubt the best option to stay as the view from there is of paradise.

The black pearls are the star of this place, many shops offer tourists these Tahitian pearl oysters that are special and it's amazing to see the size of them. Although they are called black pearls, they actually have wonderful iridescent colors from green, ivory and silver.

Its beaches are lapped by turquoise waters with white sands and you can see flower gardens near the lake, from there you can see all the mountainous parts of Tahiti.

Water sports are a great attraction for tourists, among them one of the most commonly practiced is diving, there are many guides who teach and provide the best techniques to students. Another popular activity is going to the lagoon to feed sharks and stingrays and play with dolphins. And of course all other water sports such as surfing, waterskiing, game fishing, catamaran rides, etc.

To climb Mount Rotu is one of the challenges most tourists who are in very good shape set out to do, because it takes about four hours to climb and as many hours to come down, but it's really worth the effort as from the top, the panoramic view of the Cook and Oponohu bays, Mounts Mouaputa and Tohivea and of course Tahiti is absolutely indescribable.

You can opt for natural Polynesia, discovering the wonderful fauna and flora or decide on visiting art galleries, the church of San José de Papopao or the market, and they have relaxation centers dedicated to personal care with excellent techniques.

HOW AND WHEN TO GO - WEATHER AND TRANSPORTATION

To reach Moorea from Tahiti is a 7-minute flight, also from the Papeete port with ferries leaving frequently or choose to hire a boat or helicopter.

The climate is tropical with two seasons: dry and wet. The temperature ranges from 25°C to 30°C and the hottest months are December to March, perhaps the best option is to come from April through October.
