Mauritius Republic is situated on the Indian Ocean, 900 km east from Madagascar, and it has 5 islands: San Brandon, Rodrigues, the two Agalegas Islands and Mauritius itself. It once belonged to The Netherlands, then to France and finally to the British Empire, becoming independent in 1968, when it founded a steady democracy that now has one of the highest incomes per capita of Africa, thanks to the recent development of international tourism that has attracted visitors to its coasts where you can find some of the most attractive beaches in the world.

Thanks to the lush coconut vegetation, the white sand beaches and the deep blue Indian Sea, Mauritius beaches have gained a deserved reputation in the international context. Among them, Blue Bay stands out, offering a striking landscape with its two small islands facing each other that allow swimmers to cross from coast to coast. The famous author Mark Twain once wrote that "God must have been inspired in Mauritius to create the Garden of Eden".

Hotels & Activities

The great development of tourism on the island has brought big hotel chains, so accommodation is not a problem in Mauritius.

Once there, you must visit Black River Georges National Park, a natural area of uncommon beauty that can be reached by the only mountain path of the island.

If you want to take a break from the beach sunshine, an interesting activity is visiting the Dutch ruins in Vieux Grand Port, the oldest settlement on the island, dating back to the 17th century. Or you can visit Chamarel, where different kinds of volcanic ash have moulded a multicolor landscape topped by a really dazzling waterfall complex.

And if you want some nightlife, enjoy the weekly parties or visit Grand Bay Resort to taste the famous typical drinks of the island.

Weather & Flights

You can get there by plane from various cities in Europe, specially from France and South Africa.

The weather is hot all the year round, although it is pretty humid between May and November.
