These beaches are five-minute drive from the city centre in an area known as Avenida del Mar. If you visit La Serena, you cannot miss sightseeing here, as the twelve beaches along an extension of six kilometres offer a unique landscape, all of them are suitable for bathing and are among the best beaches in Chile.
The tourists also choose the city for sports and music, as there are tennis championships like the Davis Cup, youth football championships and La Serena Music Festival which gathers very well-known artists year after year.
Along the avenue we find all the facilities, accommodation and entertainment a holidaymaker needs. There, you can find hotels, hostels, motels, apart-hotels and camping sites.
There are all kinds of restaurants offering fish and seafood dishes at prices to suit everybody´s pocket.
At night, you can enjoy yourself at different discos and pubs and then watch the fabulous sunrise on the seashore.
Some beaches are not good for swimming when currents are strong, but they are all suitable for sports on the sand, horseriding or cycling.
Pañuelas beach is a picturesque fishing creek famous for its casino and horse riding club. Totoralillo is ideal for fishing and surfing, Las Tascas is more exclusive so you cannot access its sports port unless you are a club member.
There is also Morrillo with a fabulous camping site and Guanaqueros, where you can practise sports fishing or take an entertaining boat ride. The small bay called Playa Blanca is as quiet as Tongoy.
La Serena has an airport that receives flights from all over Chile. The warmest months are in summer, from December to March, when temperatures rise to 23ºC.
