Durban is the third most important city in South Africa after Cape Town and Johannesburg. It is an excellent tourist destination on the Indian Ocean. Situated in the province of KwaZulu-Natal, the most important resources are its industries, tourism and its port, which is the most important port in the country.
The beaches have golden sand and crystal water, and many hotels have private beaches where surfing is the most popular watersport thanks to the big waves. Golden Mile in Durban is the beach which receives the most visitors and has excellent tourist facilities. As far as sharks are concerned, the beaches are totally protected by anti-shark nets, so tourists can enjoy bathing in safety.

You can visit natural parks like Hluhluwe-Imfolozi and see crocodiles, rhinos, giraffes, or Saint Lucy´s Park with its amazing hippos. Or you can visit museums like the Maritime Museum or the History Museum, as well as art galleries and big theatres. You cannot miss the Durban Aquarium, situated in Golden Mile, which is one of the biggest aquariums in the world.
At night you can have a great time at good discos, bars and restaurants. An interesting area to visit is the Indian Neighbourhood with its market in Victoria Street.
Durban has an international airport, excellent railway service and very good roads that run all over the city and link it with other major cities in South Africa.
The climate is subtropical, with very hot summers and temperate winters. In summer the temperature is between 20ºC and 25ºC and in winter it falls to 15ºC.
