South of Cuba in the heart of Western Caribbean Sea, the three Cayman Islands are the visible part of Cayman Mountain, an underwater ridge that falls as deep as 7100 metres, separating the islands from the Jamaican beaches.

Grand Cayman is by far the biggest, and its sisters, the two small Cayman, are mainly wild places, where you can find fruit trees, orchids and cactus and where the peace and quiet and the feeling of being immersed in the true culture of the West Indies is more real. Of course, it is this area of the Cayman Islands which has some of the best beaches in the world.

The capital, George Town, is famous for the Seven Mile Beach and is full of condominiums, resorts and small shopping centres. The streets are crowded with banks and financial institutions which have transformed the place into the 5th major and most important international financial centre, which holds the particularity of having the 8th GDP per capita in the world.

WHERE TO STAY AND WHAT TO DO

Cayman Islands offer such luxurious hotels that it is difficult to think of visiting this place on a low budget.

One of the favourite activities is visiting the small villages in the outskirts of the busy capital George Town, where the atmosphere changes radically. Another very interesting choice is visiting the Botanical Park Queen Elizabeth II, which is one of the few places in the world, besides Ecuador beaches, where you can see blue iguanas.

Tropical birdwatching is another attraction, specially on Little Cayman, since you can find exotic birds such as different species of parrots.

Another point of interest is the Wreck of the Ten Sails Park, on Grand Cayman, where according to the legend, ten ships ran aground on the reefs on the same night, and where you can see the skeletons of some of these boats.

    WHEN AND HOW TO GO

Grand Cayman connects with the main cities in Western countries: London, Chicago and Miami among others.

Between April and Decembre the weather is good, prices are lower and the islands are not crowded with tourists.
