Another place in Las Bocas is Columbus Island, with some of the most beautiful beaches in Panama. The great marine species diversity which has made Bocas famous, remain in spite of tourism which has lately become rather uncontrolled.
Where to stay and what to do
Bocas is the only place where you can find hotels to suit every traveller.
Toursits travel from Bocas to the other islands. Two of the most striking ones are Popa Island (the home of beautiful tucans), and Bocatorita, where a mangrove maze has formed a giant 6 km natural aquariums.
You can also practise snorkelling among mangroves in Cayo Crawl Canal - on the way to the magnificent coral gardens on the Southeast coast of Bastimentos Island.
And if you are tired of sea water activities, you can go sightseeing in Ciudad de Bocas, with its colourful houses built during the so-called "Banana boom", when there were nearly 25.000 inhabitants, three times as many people as at the present time.
When and how to go
You can fly to Panama City from any city in the world.
Although there is always rain in Panama, the best time to go is in September and October, when the weather is dryer.
