ATLANTIDA - URUGUAY
URUGUAY BEACHES
Just 45 kilometers from Montevideo, the capital of the Eastern Republic of Uruguay, is Atlantida, on the Costa de Oro (Golden Coast). It was one of the first resorts on this coast, so it is possible to still see some picturesque old buildings facing the sea. Its coast is lapped by the legendary Rio de la Plata, which Uruguay shares with Argentina, and has two distinct beaches, among which emerges the Las Sirenas Islet: La Brava and Mansa. They are beautiful beaches with pine trees, and extremely fine white sand and the sea is very different between the two. Mansa beach is ideal for family, since its water, as the name indicates, is extremely quiet, however the Brava has waves and is usually well attended by young people who enjoy water sports.
Atlantida offers two beaches with the best chance to enjoy summer vacations, if you like sunbathing lying in the sand with greater peace go to Playa Mansa, if you want to play sports and be in the bustle of young people without a doubt the best place is Playa Brava. Both beaches are broad and extensive, uniform features of the beaches of Uruguay.
WHERE TO STAY AND WHAT TO DO - HOTELS AND ACTIVITIES
In Atlantida you have every chance to choose your preferred accommodation, hotels, hostels, serviced apartments, but the most popular accommodation is renting a house, apartment or cottage and organized camp grounds.
Besides enjoying the sun, beach and water sports in Piedra Lisa you can practice sport fishing for black seabass, being one of the few places in the world where you can do this.
There are some very interesting places to see, such as witnessing an eagle that is found on the beach walk to Villa Argentina: a mysterious stone structure that has the body of a dolphin and an eagle's head.
Other great places to discover and visit are the zoo where you can see native and exotic animals. There are beautiful religious centers like the Iglesia Sagrado Corazón and the Parroquia Cristo Obrero. Another attractive place is the very popular Plaza de los Fundadores, which is a public space in downtown with a beautiful fountain and Paseo de Neruda for poetry lovers, with a very good documentation and information. For those who like to purchase good memories, you can find souvenirs at the expo center.
