Atacama

320 kilometres from the city of Antofagasta is the region of Atacama, worldwide famous for its desert. On the other hand, the area has a great number of bays and beaches suitable for spending the summer.

There are lots of virgin places to enjoy the peace and quiet, with everyday sunshine and a dense morning mist known as “camanchaca”, which gradually disappears.

On planning your holidays, this destination guarantees some of the best beaches in the north of Chile. Its coasts on the Pacific Ocean offer crystal water, gentle waves, fine white sand and pleasant temperatures. Atacama is a good choice for those enjoying entertainment and sports.

Hotels & Activities

Throughout the city, we find all sorts of accommodation, specially on the coast where there are hostels, camping sites and other cheap places to stay.

The restaurants offer delicious dishes of fish and fresh seafood, spicy meats and the excellent “pisco sawer”, a motivating drink made of a mixture of a famous local spirit with lemon and orange juice. Nightlife is lively with good discos on the coast which offer the possibility of watching a beautiful sunrise when the long dancing night finishes.

With more than 60 beaches along the coastal fringe, Bahia Inglesa is very popular with families. It is quite shallow and has warmer water, which makes it ideal for swimming and for small children.

In Chañaral province, we find some rocky beaches offering good facilities and an ideal spot for artistic or amateur photography, as the landscapes are really amazing. The tide allows you to practise some watersports like surfing or windsurfing.

Playa Chica is very small and is protected from winds, which makes it really enjoyable until late in the evening.
