Arica

This beautiful city, situated in the most northern region of the country, has various attractions for those choosing sunshine and the best climate all the year round.

Arica, on the Pacific Ocean, is known as the city of eternal spring, with its warm water beaches covering more than twenty kilometres of sand that does not cross the Coastal mountain range.

However, its wealth does not only depend on its seaside resorts but also on the different options for entertainment and its important historical and socio-cultural patrimony.

Arica is famous worldwide for the well-known Mummies Chinchorro, which are the oldest in the world, and for the Arica Mountain and its Armament Museum displaying relics from the War of the Pacific, which attract and move every visitor.

Hotels & Activities

There are good hotels and restaurants for the visitor to enjoy an excellent holiday.

The main beach in Arica is Chinchorro Beach, with warm water ideal for swimming and practising watersports. Las Machas and El Alacrán are very dangerous beaches due to the strong sea currents which make them a good spot for surfing, and they offer excellent camping facilities.

El Laucho is very small and convenient for warm baths, with white sand, restaurants, pubs and discos. Another popular beach is La Lisera, which was the first beach to have coconut trees and owes its name to the great number of fish called “lisa”. Visitors choose it for the practice of snorkelling and seafood picking. Playa Brava is not suitable for baths but there is a cliff from where you can enjoy beautiful sunsets. Other interesting beaches are Arenillas Negras (with black sand) and La Capilla , with amazing caves hiding marvellous rock paintings. Corazones and La Liserilla are virgin beaches that are not suitable for swimming but are very good for camping.
